KNOWING GOD, EXPERIENCING THE HOLY SPIRIT, AND LIVING THE SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE (Luke 3:21-22 ● Message #1/6) 05-16-10
INTRODUCTION. 1. Some Summary Highlights: on the Holy Spirit & Spiritual Gifts. 2. The Holy Spirit in Luke: “The coming and indwelling of the Holy Spirit upon Jesus and his followers. The Spirit is present in the Gospel of Luke, from the births of John the Baptist and Jesus to the end. The Spirit is present at Jesus' dedication in the temple, his baptism, temptation, early ministry, and first sermon. The Holy Spirit is central to the message of John the Baptist, and Jesus at his ascension promises the Spirit's future coming in power” (taken from the “Introduction to Luke” in the ESV Study Bible). 1. KNOWING GOD: as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit through Faith in Jesus Christ. 2. EXPERIENCING THE HOLY SPIRIT: by knowing who He is, what He does, and receiving/yielding to His work within us. ● He glorifies Jesus Christ as Lord. ● He Reveals God & His Word. ● He Regenerates Sinners (He makes us born again). ● He Baptizes us into union with Christ. ● He Dwells within us as the Church. ● He Empowers us as Gospel witnesses to the whole world. ● He Empowers us for godly living and gives us Spiritual Gifts. ● He Purifies us unto Christ-likeness. ● He Leads us in daily life and in intercessory prayer. 3. LIVING THE SPIRIT-FILLED LIFE: ● Know who we are in Christ and who God is making us to be. ● Put off the Old Self and Put on the New. ● Walk in Godliness & Wisdom. ● Be Strong in the Lord and put on the full armor of God.
